PHP upgrade service · NZ & Australia

PHP 8.2 support ends 31 December 2026. Is your website ready?

After that date, PHP 8.2 gets no more security fixes, and older versions already get none. We check your site, upgrade it to a supported version on a test copy, fix anything that breaks, and switch over with a way back.

For WordPress, WooCommerce, Laravel, Symfony and custom PHP sites. Fixed price, agreed before we start.

PHP support dates at a glance.

Each PHP version gets security fixes for a fixed period. Once that ends, any new security hole stays open on every site still running it.

How to check which PHP version your site runs

  1. WordPress

Go to Tools → Site Health → Info → Server and look for "PHP version".

  2. Hosting control panel

In cPanel, open MultiPHP Manager or Select PHP Version. Other hosts show it under PHP settings.

  3. Not sure?

Send us your website address. The free check tells you the version and what an upgrade involves.

Why it matters

What happens if you leave it.

Nothing breaks on 1 January. The risk builds quietly, then usually arrives on someone else's schedule.

Security holes stay open

New vulnerabilities in PHP itself won't be fixed, and attackers target out-of-date sites first.

Your host upgrades for you

Many hosts force newer PHP on their own timetable. Sites that haven't been prepared can break overnight.

Plugins and libraries move on

WordPress plugins, themes and frameworks drop old PHP versions, so you can't install their security updates either.

Payments and compliance

If you take card payments, running unsupported software can put you out of line with PCI DSS security requirements.

How we upgrade

Your live site keeps running until everything passes.

  1. Free compatibility check Free

We scan your code, plugins, themes and server for anything that won't run on newer PHP. You get a short report within two business days.

  2. Fixed-price quote

You see exactly what needs changing, how long it takes and what it costs. Nothing starts until you approve it.

  3. Upgrade on a test copy

We copy your site, move it to the new PHP version, update or replace incompatible code and plugins, then check checkout, login, forms and key pages.

  4. Switch over, with a way back

A full backup first, the change made at a quiet time, then close monitoring. If anything looks wrong, we roll back in minutes.

  5. Stay current

Optional: a care plan keeps PHP, plugins and security updates current so you're never caught by a deadline again.

Questions

PHP upgrade questions.

When does PHP 8.2 reach end of life?

PHP 8.2 receives security fixes until 31 December 2026. After that date no more security patches are released for it. PHP 7.4, 8.0 and 8.1 are already past end of life.

Which PHP version should I upgrade to?

For most sites we recommend PHP 8.4, which has security support until 31 December 2028. If a plugin or library isn't ready for 8.4 yet, PHP 8.3 is supported until 31 December 2027.

Will upgrading PHP break my website?

It can if the site isn't checked first, because older code and plugins may use features newer PHP versions have removed. That's why every upgrade is done and tested on a copy of your site, and the live site keeps running on the old version until everything passes.

How long does a PHP upgrade take?

Most small WordPress or WooCommerce sites take a few days from approval to go-live. Custom applications and large stores take longer, and the free compatibility check gives you a timeline before you commit.

Do I need to change hosting provider?

Usually not. Most hosts let you switch PHP version in the control panel. If your host doesn't offer a supported version, we'll recommend options and can handle the move.

My host already upgraded PHP and my site broke. Can you help?

Yes. We can get the site working again quickly, then fix the underlying compatibility problems properly so it keeps working on the new version.
